SpaceX's board elected Roelof Botha as an independent director on June 16, 2026, to fill an existing vacancy. The board also appointed Botha to its Audit Committee, effective immediately.

He will serve until the company's next annual meeting of shareholders and until his successor has been duly elected and qualified, unless he leaves earlier. Botha has been with the venture capital firm Sequoia Capital since 2003, and from 2000 to 2003 he held various positions at PayPal, Inc., including chief financial officer.

The filing disclosed that a family member of Botha has been employed at SpaceX since January 2025 on the enterprise operations team, with 2025 annual compensation above the $120,000 reporting threshold. SpaceX said that compensation is generally commensurate with that of the family member's peers.

The filing said non-employee directors do not currently receive cash or equity compensation for board service, and that SpaceX will enter into an indemnification agreement with Botha.
